Vinyasa Flow Basics Level 0.5
A great start for our new yoga students!
This 90-minute yoga class is recommended for students who have recently started yoga and for those who wish to have a refresher of the fundamentals. More time is taken to practice safe and effective body alignment and prop usage in a slow-flow. This is a great preparation class to ease into Level 1 and 2 classes. More helpful information is available here for those new to yoga.
Vinyasa Flow Level 1
Ideal for our beginners & those who like slower flow classes!
These 75 to 90-minute vinyasa-style classes include sequencing in standing postures, core strengthening, introductory arm balancing and inversions, backbending and seated forward bending postures blended with yoga ‘food for thought’ topics that benefit our daily lives. Basic Pranayama practices are demonstrated and practiced.
Vinyasa Flow Level 1-2
Build upon the foundations of Level 1 classes!
These 75 to 90-minute vinyasa-style classes are for students who feel stable and comfortable in their Level 1 class practice and are ready to deepen their yoga practice. Emphasis is given to learning a greater variety of breathing techniques to relax or stimulate the nervous system (examples Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana), building upon the foundational yoga postures of Level 1 classes and refining students' body feeling & observation skills. An example of postures at the level 1-2 would include safe and stable shoulder stand, head stand & deeper back bending. 'Food for thought' yoga philosophy topics are also continued at this level to deepen students' awareness in daily life.
Vinyasa Flow Level 2
For students who like a steady flow!
A 90-minute vinyasa-style yoga class that builds upon the postures practiced in Level 1 and Level 1-2. A more fluid flow of postures is practiced going deeper into creative postures that expand on strength, balance, endurance and flexibility of both the body and mind. A larger variety of Pranayama practices are demonstrated and practiced along with 'food for thought' topics.
The Rocket® Level 2
A practice like no other!
THE ROCKET® is a system of yoga sequences developed by Larry Schultz in San Francisco during the 1980s. THE ROCKET® is rooted in the tradition of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It is combined with and restructured from the Primary and Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as well as key postures from the 3rd and 4th advanced series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. There are 3 Levels of practice and all postures used can be modified to fit the student's body. Larry's system was shaped through over nine years of dedicated Ashtanga practice with his teacher Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Ashtanga Fundamentals Level 1-2
Led class based on the primary series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga!
In this style, yoga postures are linked in specific sequences that deepen a student's flexibility, strength, stamina & concentration. Sequences are repeated each class, so that students are given time to master postures through breath and stability. Emphasis is given to proper breathing (Ujjayi), body alignment (propping & assisting with the teacher) & Dristi gazing (method used to deepen awareness). A key posture will be reviewed & practiced with the teacher each class. Students are encouraged to feel comfortable in the Level 1 classes before beginning this class.
Yin Yoga Level 1
Slow down the mind & open the inner body!
Unlike Vinyasa Flow classes (Yang Yoga) where the focus is more on superficial muscles, strength and endurance, Yin Yoga focuses on the deeper layers of connective tissues in the body like fascia. Yin poses are generally held for 3-7 minutes with muscles relaxed in order to slowly and safely stretch and open the connective tissues that surround joints (hips, spine, shoulders for example) and to stimulate the flow of Chi in the body. Since Yin Yoga is a slow moving and quiet practice, it allows students to fully engage with the breath, which is effectively used to heal the body and still the mind.
Restorative Yoga Level 1
The Antidote to Stress is relaxation!
Restorative Yoga is a therapeutic Yoga style where you practice in sitting or lying positions. Yoga props are used to support the entire body into complete support and relaxation. The less the effort, the deeper the comfort & relaxation possibility. Relaxing into stillness, your body learns to let go of physical tensions through the natural breath and quiets your mind.
Guided relaxation & meditation.
The Monday Yin Yoga class, Tuesday Vinyasa Flow Level 2 and Sunday Vinyasa Flow Level 1 classes with Eric Bennewitz conclude with a 10-20 minute yoga nidra practice. Yoga Nidra is a systematic, guided meditation that deeply relaxes, activates self-healing and strengthens the connection with our innermost Self.
Eric is a trained Yoga Nidra Guide. He welcomes all people to experience this simple, deep and transforming practice that is beneficial to anyone. Read more about Yoga Nidra.
