10:00 - 12:30 Power Yoga Master Class with Bryan Kest
A Bryan Kest Master Class is a short (1 Class, 2.5 Hour) immersion in the “Practice of Yoga”. Practicing yoga means strengthening not just the body but even more importantly, the qualities of our mind that actually have the largest impact on our physical well-being. Having a tone and supple physique certainly has its benefits yet real health and contentment come from a calm and peaceful mind. Science and medicine are now telling us ninety percent of all disease is psychosomatic; in other words, most diseases originate in from our minds and manifest into our bodies. This is why ninety nine percent of all yoga practices are meditational or devotional practices, in other words, practices that address the mental state. Knowing now what science and the yogis are telling us, it would be irresponsible not to address this and bring it to the forefront of our practice, in other words, a fitness routine dominated by our wisdom rather than our vanity. In our 2.5-hour class together, I try to bring all this together. A strong, well-rounded, yet simple physical practice that leaves every nook and cranny in our bodies vibrating with vitality while challenging our minds in the sense of strengthening the qualities of mind that are most useful, positive and powerful while eradicating the qualities of our mind that are harmful and stress inducing. Strengthen qualities such as: calmness, patience, focus, gentleness, gratitude, humility and acceptance, while weakening qualities such as: judgment, competitiveness, distraction, reaction, and criticism (just to name a few). Qualities of mind that have the biggest impact on our health and happiness are like anything else in the sense that if you feed them, they will grow big and strong and if you don’t feed them, they will weaken and die. Now since our physical practice is such a fertile environment for most all of these qualities to arise, our physical practice becomes an opportunity to strengthen the qualities we want to be strong and to weaken and eradicate the qualities we find harmful. If you want to know how I do this, you will have to come and see because words cannot replicate the experience that’s a culmination of almost 40 years of my own yoga practice called PowerYoga. Class consists of 45-minute lecture, 90-minute asana and a 15-minute meditation practice.
14:00 - 17:30 Long, Slow & Deep (LSD) with Bryan Kest & Yoga Nidra guided Meditation with guest Eric Bennewitz
This classic class created by Bryan Kest is composed of long holds for a deep, yin-style experience. A slower-paced flow, the challenge of Long, Slow & Deep is primarily mental. Students are presented with the opportunity to deepen classic poses, focus on the breath, and find patience. The Long, Slow and Deep class has at the very least a few ostensible objectives. The first is, I wanted to give people a deep and potent alternative to the myriad of Vinyasa and flowing Hatha yoga classes. I wanted people to know that they have a choice. There have been so many days in my life when I just didn’t want to do a salutation or a lunge series or even to be that physically active. Yet, I still had the time and ability to practice as well as the desire for all the pleasing benefits of yoga. I still wanted to maintain my practice. I wanted people to see how utterly potent this kind of practice can be even without focusing on strength, endurance or even acquiring much heat. I also wanted people to experience the benefits of holding poses a little longer, giving these massive areas (hamstrings, groin, hips, shoulders, etc.) more time to release deeper. This truly is an amazing routine. It’s a paradox. It is by far the most difficult class I teach, yet you don’t really get off your butt the whole class. The challenge here is mostly mental. You are probably going to want to run away from this one, especially in the beginning. Hang in there, be patient and keep breathing, deeply and fluidly. So, dim the lights, warm up the room and enjoy (at least how it leaves you feeling).
'Relax into Being' Yoga Nidra with Eric...
is about easily releasing tensions, deepening awareness, opening to your True Nature & just ‘being’ for awhile.
Modern life is often absorbed in ‘doing.’ To do lists, rising responsibilities, longer work hours, less sleep and sensory overload are some of the reasons it’s harder to devote quality time to empty out and ‘be.’ This ancient and guided sleep-based meditation has the power to relax, heal and transform your awareness of being. Regardless of your meditation experience or where you are in life, anyone can do & benefit from it. This is ‘True’ physical, emotional & mental tension release that relaxes your thinking mind and allows you to peel away the layers of a conditioned life. By just lying down and listening, you can open doors to a deeper connection within & transform perspectives on what really matters in life. Practice and you will nurture your life intentions and direct your energies towards realizing them with clarity.
After Bryan’s deeply relaxing and releasing LSD practice, your body and mind will be prepared for a journey as Eric guides you into a state of complete ‘being’ in Yoga Nidra. Lie down in a comfortable position and you will be guided through a 30-minutes Yoga Nidra meditation that will leave you feeling refreshed, clear & truly alive!
